Who is Gewerber for?
For sole proprietors, small businesses and micro-businesses in Germany – as well as freelancers and small agencies.
Is Gewerber really free?
Yes. The open-source core is free and can be self-hosted. Advanced features are available in the Pro and Business SaaS tiers. During the beta, everything is free.
Which languages are supported?
Gewerber is available in German, English, Russian and Turkish.
Do you support the small-business rule?
Yes. The small-business rule (§19 UStG) and VAT logic are built right into invoicing.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export invoices and bookkeeping data as CSV and JSON – ideal for your tax advisor.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is processed in line with GDPR. You can export all of it as a complete ZIP archive at any time and delete your account yourself – your personal data is anonymized in the process. With self-hosting, you additionally decide where your data lives.
I've only just gone self-employed – can Gewerber help me get started?
Yes. Checklists and plain-language explanations guide you through the German basics – right up to your first correct invoice. The blog adds step-by-step guides.
What happens when my revenue approaches the small-business limits?
Your income is always visible in the accounting module – that way you keep an eye on how your revenue develops and notice early when you get close to the 25,000 or 100,000 euro thresholds. Our blog explains switching to standard taxation step by step.
Does Gewerber replace my tax advisor (Steuerberater)?
No – but it makes their job a lot easier: clean records, a prepared income-surplus statement (EÜR) and CSV/JSON exports your advisor can use directly.
Where can I find the source code – and can I contribute?
The entire open-source core is on GitHub (github.com/Gewerber) under the MIT license. Feature requests, bug reports and pull requests are expressly welcome.
Can I create e-invoices (XRechnung/ZUGFeRD)?
E-invoicing is firmly on our roadmap. For now you create professional PDF invoices containing every detail required by law.
Which platforms are supported?
The web app runs in any modern browser at app.gewerber.de – no installation needed. Native apps for iOS and Android are planned.
